Welcome to Adat Shalom-Emanuel

Adat Shalom-Emanuel Synagogue

Adat Shalom-Emanuel is one of Israel's most active Conservative (masorti) congregations. Founded in Rehovot in 1970 by immigrants from North America, Adat Shalom-Emanuel is today the spiritual home of nearly 200 families. These include native Israelis and immigrants from all over the world: The Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

In a country that is often polarized by religious and non-religious extremes, Adat Shalom-Emanuel is a unifying force. We are the only egalitarian congregation in the community and offer a pluralistic approach to Judaism that is attractive to Jews from all religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Where We're Located

Adat Shalom-Emanuel Synagogue Adat Shalom-Emanuel is located in Rehovot, Israel - about 20 km south of Tel Aviv and 35 km west of Jerusalem. Founded in 1890, Rehovot's location and rich soil made it a natural agricultural center. Today Rehovot is home to the internationally renowned Weizmann Institute of Science, the Faculty of Agriculture of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Kaplan Hospital.

Our Challenge

Since its inception, Israel's challenge has been to build a modern Jewish state based on traditional Jewish values. Adat Shalom-Emanuel faces this challenge on a community level. In contrast with other cities in Israel with Masorti congregations, Rehovot does not have a large population of immigrants who have experienced Conservative Judaism in their home countries. To survive and flourish, we must reach out to non-observant Israelis with a message of returning to tradition - giving them a place to celebrate their Judaism and increase their knowledge.
